Who We Are
Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) is a healthcare district focused on preventative health and serves the communities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. Established in 1955 as a public agency, it offers an extensive range of dynamic health and wellness programs, with innovative services and facilities to promote health and prevent diseases across the lifespan.
State of the Current Campus
Our Redondo Beach campus—extending from Diamond Street to Beryl Street and Prospect Avenue to Flagler Lane— is home to our 60-year-old former hospital building located at 514 North Prospect Avenue. The campus also includes two medical office buildings (510 and 520 North Prospect Avenue).
The next 1-5 years is our “window of opportunity” to address escalating maintenance costs as well as seismic and structural issues common with buildings built in the '50s and '60s. BCHD’s board and the project’s Community Working Group directed staff to take a broader look at the campus and prioritize safety. This occurred after seismic experts provided analysis and preliminary costs that concluded no legal obligation exists to address any building’s structural integrity, but there were issues that should be addressed.
Community Outreach
A robust public outreach process has been ongoing since 2017, with neighbors, residents and community leaders providing their perspectives about the project. These valued insights—as well as information gathered from expert structural and financial consultants—form the foundation for moving forward.
Healthy Living Campus Vision
A master plan has evolved to create a modern Healthy Living Campus that meets the changing health needs of residents and creates a community campus designed for all Beach Cities residents.
This once-in-a-generation project is our community’s unique opportunity to chart the future of preventive health in the Beach Cities by purposefully building an intergenerational, vibrant campus where people can engage in healthy behaviors, form meaningful connections and be well … for generations to come.
